What does “profe” mean in Colombian Spanish?
Profe is the Colombian (and broader Latin American) short form of profesor or profesora, used by students from kindergarten through university. The clipped word carries warmth: a profesor is the formal title, but profe is the person you can ask for help, joke with, and tease back. The use crosses into casual respect for any teacher-figure: yoga instructors, swim coaches, and personal trainers all get called profe in Colombian everyday speech. Spain rarely uses it; maestro and profesor dominate there.
In this clip, a Colombian teacher runs an experiment: students bring inventions to test against rain. One student says “Obvio, profe” (“Obviously, teach”). The single word marks the relationship.
