What does “me rindo” mean in Spanish?
Me rindo is how Spanish throws in the towel: “I give up.” The base verb rendir means to yield or produce, but add the reflexive se and you’re surrendering yourself. It works everywhere surrender happens — board games, arguments, gutter balls, homework — and the question ¿te rindes? (“do you give up?”) is the standard taunt before revealing a riddle’s answer.
In this dubbed sitcom scene, a kid bowling without bumpers sends another ball into the gutter, declares he’s useless and announces “Me rindo” — and his father, mid-lecture about building character, orders him back: “levántate y agarra esas bolas.” A common synonym worth knowing: me doy por vencido, literally “I declare myself beaten.”
