Pavúk is Slovak for spider. The long-vowel ú (with the čiarka mark) is the giveaway. Czechs write the same word as pavouk. The two languages split many close-but-not-identical words this way: byť/být (to be), múka/mouka (flour), súd/soud (court). Spotting the ú tells you you’re reading Slovak, not Czech.
Here a Slovak myth-busting channel kicks off with: « ľudia zjedia 8 pavúkov ročne » (people eat 8 pavúkov a year in their sleep).
