What does “j’en ai un” mean in French? (the pronoun “en”)
In this clip, one driver says his car has a TV. The other answers: “J’en ai une à l’arrière de ma voiture” — “I have one in the back of mine.” English speakers often say “j’ai une,” but French needs the small word “en” before the verb. It means “of them” and points back to the thing just mentioned. With any number you keep the number and add “en”: j’en ai un, j’en ai deux, j’en ai beaucoup.
