What does “sur place ou à emporter” mean?

Order at a bakery, a kebab shop or a fast-food counter in France and you will be asked sur place ou à emporter ? Sur place — literally “on the spot” — means you are eating there. À emporter means you are taking it with you. Answering takes two words and no verb: sur place, merci, or à emporter, s’il vous plaît.
