What does “être en PLS” mean in French slang?
PLS stands for position latérale de sécurité, the recovery position you put an unconscious person into while waiting for an ambulance. Since roughly the 2010s younger French speakers have used être en PLS figuratively: floored, wiped out, emotionally flattened. Je suis en PLS after a breakup, a bad grade, or three hours of revision.
The exaggeration is the point — the claim is that you feel so bad you might actually pass out. That makes it casual and half-comic, so it belongs in messages and social posts rather than anywhere formal, and it stretches over physical exhaustion and emotional collapse alike.
