Where is Bukovel and why is it famous in Ukraine?

Буковель (Bukovel) is the largest ski resort in Ukraine, high in the Carpathian mountains in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. It opened to the public in the early 2000s and quickly became the New Year and February-break spot for middle-class Ukrainians from Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro. Ukrainian comedy has a running joke about Bukovel: the actual skiing comes second to the social scene, where guests spend as much energy on Instagram photos in matching red ski suits as on the slopes. The resort sits near Hutsul villages, and its pricier hotels have become a setting for Carpathian-flavored sketch comedy.
