What is “danoninho” in Brazilian Portuguese?
Danoninho is the Brazilian children’s yogurt-pot product launched by Danone in the 1980s. The small pink cups, with cartoon mascots and the famous slogan “Danoninho vale por um bifinho” (“a Danoninho is worth a little steak”), became so embedded in Brazilian childhood that danoninho is now used generically for any small fruit yogurt cup, even from competing brands. The same fate has hit other Brazilian brands: Bombril for steel wool, Maizena for cornstarch.
In this skit, a group of nuns argue about lunch and one of them lists iogurte and danoninho as the kids' yogurts she serves. Even nuns reach for the brand name first.
