What does “rantsoenering” mean in Dutch?
Rantsoenering is the Dutch word for rationing, borrowed from French ration with the -eren infinitive ending Dutch uses for newer verbs. It still carries the weight of the Hongerwinter of 1944-45, when Dutch civilians actually held bonkaarten (ration coupons), so policy documents reach for it carefully.
