What does “oelewapper” mean in Dutch?

Oelewapper is one of Dutch’s most satisfying insults: it means fool or nincompoop, but it sounds so absurd that the word itself is almost the punchline. It comes from oele (a dialectal form of uil, “owl”) plus wapper (something that flaps or flutters), so you’re essentially calling someone a flapping owl — useless, dazed, and a little ridiculous.
