What does “mittendrin” mean in German?

mittendrin means you are right in the middle of something — surrounded by it, not watching from the edge. A 360-degree show that drops you onto the streets of ancient Alexandria is pure mittendrin territory. German speakers use it for any situation where you feel caught up in things: a crowd, a party, a city square. It is warmer and more vivid than plain “in der Mitte” (in the middle).
