What does “in der Früh” mean in Austrian German?

Austrians and Bavarians often say “in der Früh” for “in the morning,” where Standard German speakers from northern Germany would say am Morgen or morgens. The phrase comes from Frühe (“early morning hours”) and is a reliable marker of southern German-speaking areas: Vienna, Salzburg, Tyrol, Carinthia, and across Bavaria. Northern German listeners understand it but rarely use it. In der Früh fits a wider Austrian habit of softer, more rural-feeling vocabulary, alongside Marille (apricot, vs. Standard German Aprikose) and Paradeiser (tomato, vs. Tomate).
