💡 Víš, že…?

What does “复制粘贴 (fùzhì zhāntie)” mean in Chinese slang?

复制粘贴 (fùzhì zhāntie)
Mandarin tech term gone colloquial
“copy-paste” — the computer shortcut that became a spoken metaphor for repeating steps without thinking

复制粘贴 (fùzhì zhāntie) is the standard Mandarin for “copy and paste.” In everyday speech it has escaped the computer screen: to say you are 复制粘贴 something is to mean you are mechanically repeating a previous sequence of steps without re-inventing anything. The metaphor is identical to the English “copy-paste job” — the technology became the idiom.

The clip uses the phrase twice, first literally (copying a lottery-scratch technique) then in explicit example sentences: 我在做第二份的时候,基本就是复制粘贴了 (“when I made the second one, I basically just copy-pasted”), and 他写作业的时候总是复制粘贴别人的答案 (“he always copy-pastes other people’s answers when doing homework”). The vlogger’s summary is clean: 复制粘贴 在口语里常用作比喻,意思就是完全照搬前面的做法和步骤,不用重新想 — “in spoken Chinese it’s commonly a metaphor: to copy the previous method exactly, without thinking it through again.” Note the variant spelling: the paste character can appear as 粘贴 or 黏贴 (both zhāntie/niántie in different registers).
