What does “pultos” mean in Hungarian?

When the character snaps “Én vagyok a pultos,” “I’m the bartender,” he’s using one of Hungarian’s most productive word-building tricks. Pult is a counter or bar; add the suffix -os and you get pultos, the person who works behind it. That little -os/-es/-ös ending turns a thing into “the person associated with it.”

Once you spot the pattern it multiplies: virág (flower) gives virágos (florist), újság (newspaper) gives újságos (news-stand seller), könyv (book) gives könyves. So pultos isn’t just a vocabulary item; it’s a key to guessing dozens of Hungarian job and shop words on sight.
