What does 소원성취 mean in Korean?
소원성취 (sowonseongchwi) means 'wish fulfilled': 소원 is wish, 성취 is achievement. Koreans use it for everything from a four-leaf clover paying off, to a lottery ticket hitting, to a Buddhist temple visit on New Year’s Day. The phrase carries no irony. It works the way a dream come true does in English, but with broader range, from a small daily wish to a years-long goal.
In this clip, two characters chase the northern lights. She’d been collecting four-leaf clovers as a luck charm and worried her bad-mouthing him over text might have caused his car accident. When the aurora finally appears, both admit they’d been wishing for it: « 우리 소원성취했네요 » (we got our wish).
