Why is a sister called “Hong Geum-bo” in this K-drama?

홍금보 is the Korean name for Hong Kong action star and choreographer Sammo Hung (洪金寶). Generations of Korean viewers grew up on his films, where his stocky frame and surprising quickness made him a fan favourite. Comedy and drama writers reach for his name when they want to label a character as physically formidable. In this clip, the boss uses it for the heroine’s older sister, and the heroine isn’t fooled for a second.

The threat doesn’t stay subtle. She tells him the consequences in cracked-joint specifics: « 관절 마디마디 아작 » (your joints will splinter one by one). It’s a classic Korean comedy beat. The off-screen relative is the real heavyweight in the scene.
