What does “bulgeum” mean in Korean?

불금 squeezes 불타는 금요일, “burning Friday,” into two syllables: 불 (fire) plus 금 (Friday). It names the night the working week ends and the streets fill up, and it works as a noun, a greeting and a plan — 불금 보내세요, “have a good Friday night.” The word took hold after Korea moved to a five-day week in the 2000s.

The clip uses it for a Busan café street that locals treat as an ordinary 불금 and visitors find thrilling. The same recipe turns up elsewhere: 불토, “burning Saturday,” and 불닭, “fire chicken,” for anything ferociously spicy. The 금 comes from 금요일, where every weekday carries an element — 금 is metal, 토 earth, 일 sun.
