What are “atrei hitgar’enut” in Hebrew physics?
אתרי התגרענות (atrei hitgar’enut) is Hebrew for nucleation sites, the small imperfections on a glass wall where dissolved CO₂ collects, escapes, and forms beer foam. The phrase sounds technical because it is: atrei is the construct plural of atar (“site”), and hitgar’enut is the gerund of l’hitgaren, “to germinate, to nucleate.” Hebrew built a chemistry term from a botany verb.
Davidson Institute’s Sus Echad Nichnas L’Bar (one horse walks into a bar) explainer walks through it in straight Hebrew. The horse asks the bartender why she pours at an angle. Less foam, less turbulence, fewer אתרי התגרענות for the carbon dioxide to grab onto. The kids' framing hides graduate-level physical chemistry.
