What does “hasbi-Allah wa-niʿma l-wakil” mean in Arabic?
حسبي الله ونعم الوكيل (hasbi-Allah wa-niʿma l-wakil), “Allah is enough for me, and the best of trustees,” is what an Arabic speaker reaches for when genuinely furious at being mistreated. It’s a Quranic phrase from Surah Aal Imran, used as a shorthand prayer that Allah will see justice done. Said out loud, it’s a powerful complaint.
This clip is a street-prank reel where the prank target uses حسبي الله as their first reaction to being scared. The phrase carries the same weight across Egyptian, Gulf, Levantine, Iraqi, and Maghrebi speech. In casual contexts (a stubbed toe, a delayed bus) it’s dramatized for effect. In real grievance, it lands seriously.
