What does “harjaus” mean in Finnish?

Harjaus is Finnish for brushing, derived from harja (“brush, mane”) with the Finnish -us noun-forming suffix that turns a verb into the act itself. Finnish riding schools (ratsastuskoulu) drill harjaus as a fixed warm-up sequence: rubber curry comb to lift loose hair, hard brush along the grain, soft brush for the face and belly, then kavioiden puhdistus (“hoof picking”). The vocabulary is as standardised as a ravinto-opas food pyramid.

In this Yle Galaxi kids' challenge, two participants meet ponies named Teppo and Rusa and walk through full harjaus plus hoof picking. They both score, and one half-jokes that being grooming-pranked by a pony is part of the deal. The whole show frames Finnish stable culture as gentle, structured and slightly therapeutic.
