What does “rüzgar yakaladım” mean in Turkish football?

Turkish football fans treat rüzgar (wind) as a half-serious explanation for everything. A goalkeeper saves a top-corner shot, the striker tells the camera “köşeyi yakaladım, rüzgar olmasa belki çıkartırdın onu” (“I caught the corner, no wind and you’d have pulled it out”). Wind is Turkey’s universal football alibi: too high, too low, too wide, all blamed on rüzgar. Real wind in Istanbul stadiums probably justifies some of it.

In this Emirivriv penalty-challenge clip, two friends play through a wind-lashed shootout, and rüzgar does the storytelling: it makes a clean strike land just over the bar, and gives the loser an honourable retreat. The phrase is half excuse, half compliment.
