What does “erityinen” mean in Finnish?

Actress Hilla Pöyry talks about playing Peppi on the series Erityiset, and the show’s name keeps the key word front and center: «Mikä susta on maailman erityisen juttu?» (“what’s the most special thing in the world to you?”). Erityinen means “special, particular, distinctive.”

The series title Erityiset means “the special ones,” and its point, she says, is showing many different people and how they see the world. Erityinen also powers practical words like erityisopetus (“special education”) and erityisesti (“especially”). A warm, everyday adjective for anything that stands out from the ordinary.
