Why does Ukrainian comedy keep putting grandmothers in front of new household tech?

A favorite Ukrainian comedy move: put babusya (grandmother) in front of modern household tech, a smart TV, a tap-to-pay reader, a new bathroom fixture, and watch the gap. Decades of life experience meet a small new gadget she didn’t ask for, and the joke writes itself.

This clip uses that confusion as the straight setup for a dark punchline. An elderly Ukrainian woman calls in to a comedy radio show because her toilet won’t flush. The host walks her through it calmly: press the larger button, wait for the tank to refill, try again. The whole exchange sounds like real customer service. Then the host signs off: “and if it still doesn’t flush, leave that kitten for us.” The kitten is the punchline.
