Why does Thai TV say “press 30” to watch Channel 3?
Thai TV viewers often hear the instruction “กด 30 ช่อง 3” (“press 30 for Channel 3”). The reason: in 2014, Thailand switched from analog to digital television, and the government re-allocated channel numbers across the new digital spectrum. Channel 3, one of Thailand’s oldest networks (on air since 1970), kept its branded name but was assigned button 30 on every digital remote. Thai viewers had to memorize the new button without losing the old loyalty. To this day, Thai TV promos shout the button-and-channel pair to keep the audience in step.
