What does “neața” mean in Romanian?

neața
Romanian clipped morning greeting
'Mornin'', the casual short form of 'bună dimineața'

Neața is the casual, clipped Romanian “good morning,” shortened from bună dimineața. Romanians drop the bună dim- and keep just the tail of the word. The greeting is informal and warm: you’d say neața to family, roommates, friends, and partners, but not to your boss on a first meeting. The clipping fits a wider Romanian habit of softening morning conversation: full bună dimineața feels formal; neața fits a kitchen still half-asleep.

In this clip, a man wakes his partner with “Neața, cum ați adormit, iubirea?” (“Mornin', how did you sleep, love?”). The pairing of neața with iubirea (“the love”) is gentle Romanian morning vocabulary at its most everyday.
