What does “glykia kourasi” mean in Greek?

Wrapping up a long stint volunteering at TEDxAUEB, one student sums up the feeling perfectly: «Κούραση, εντάξει, γλυκιά κούραση» (“tired, okay, but a sweet tiredness”). Γλυκιά κούραση (“sweet tiredness”) is the pleasant exhaustion that follows rewarding work, the satisfied ache after a wedding, a harvest, or a day giving back.

It pairs γλυκός (“sweet”) with κούραση (“tiredness, fatigue”) to capture a feeling English needs a whole sentence for. Greeks reach for it after big shared efforts, especially celebrations and volunteering. It’s a small, warm phrase that says: I’m wiped out, and I’d do it all again.
