What does “Riti” mean in Swiss German?

A native German speaker hears Riti, is told it belongs on a playground, and still draws a blank — because there is no trace of this word in standard German. Riti is a Swiss German word for a swing, from the dialect verb riite (related to reiten, “to ride”) — which originally meant simply “to move or glide,” fitting a swing’s swaying motion. Swiss dialects have a whole patchwork of regional words for it, often built on the same root.
