How do you say “take out the trash” in Hungarian?

“Vidd le a szemetet!” — “Take the rubbish down!” — shows off the Hungarian imperative in its trickiest mode. Because the rubbish is a specific, known object, the verb takes the definite conjugation: vidd, not the indefinite vigyél. The prefix le (“down”) splits off and trails the verb, the normal pattern in a command. One short bark of a sentence packs the two things learners stumble on most: definite-object agreement and prefix placement.

In the clip a parent makes the chore the literal Wi-Fi password — “vidd le a szemetet, all one word, no accents, lowercase” — so the kid has to do it before getting online. Compare the indefinite egyél! (“eat!”) with the definite edd meg! (“eat it up!”). The base verb is visz (to carry/take); levisz is “take down.”
