힙합은 바지 통 크기에서 시작된다

What does “바지통” mean in Korean?
바지 means pants, and 통 is the girth or width around anything tube-shaped — a pipe, a sleeve, a leg. Glue them together and 바지통 is how wide the trouser leg is: 바지통이 커지다 means the legs are getting baggier. So instead of a separate word for “leg width,” Korean just bolts 통 onto the garment and lets you talk about its cut directly.
That 통 is productive: attach it to a body part and you get its girth — 허리통 (waist), 다리통 (leg). It’s the everyday word for how snug or loose something sits, so 통이 넓다 (“wide 통”) is a baggy, relaxed fit and 통이 좁다 (“narrow 통”) is a slim one. The clip runs the gag 바지통이 점점 커지네요 — “the trouser width just keeps growing” — turning ever-baggier pants into a deadpan definition of hip-hop.
