What is a Christmas jumper in British English?

Christmas jumper
British English word
A “jumper” is the British word for a sweater, so a Christmas jumper is a festive sweater.

In Britain, people say jumper for a warm top with long sleeves. Americans call the same thing a sweater. So a Christmas jumper is a sweater with a Christmas picture on it, like a snowman or a tree. Many British people wear one in December for fun. They even have a “Christmas jumper day.” If you only know the word sweater, this British word can surprise you.

In the clip, the teacher holds up a top and asks, “Do you like my Christmas jumper?” In American English you would say “Do you like my Christmas sweater?” Same top, two words. Australian and Irish people also say jumper.
