What is a duvet in British English?
A duvet is a soft, thick cover for your bed. It keeps you warm at night. This word is used in Britain and much of Europe. In America people say comforter instead. There is a small difference too: a British duvet goes inside a cover that you can take off and wash, like a big pillow in a pillowcase. The American comforter is one piece and has no cover.
In this bedroom lesson the teacher says, “This duvet is very warm.” If you stay in a British home, your bed will most likely have a duvet. In an American home, the same warm bed cover is a comforter.
