What is a petrol station in British English?

A petrol station is the place where you buy fuel for your car. Petrol is the British word for car fuel. In America people say gas and call the place a gas station. So the same place has two names. In Britain it is a petrol station; in America it is a gas station. British people also call it a garage or a filling station.

In this places lesson the teacher says, “I stopped at the petrol station.” If you drive in Britain, you stop at a petrol station to fill the car. In America you stop at a gas station to do the same thing.
