What does “reframe” mean in English?

reframe
English self-help word — neutral, everyday
To look at the same situation in a new way — so it feels different.

When you reframe something, you keep the same facts but change the way you see them. Think of a picture frame: put a different frame around a photo and it looks different — but the photo has not changed. Reframing a thought means you see it from a new angle. It does not make the problem go away. It changes how you feel about it.

In the clip, Dr Julie names reframing as the second tool for highly sensitive people. She says: “When you catch yourself thinking in a way that suggests there is something wrong with you, reframe it as a neutral trait.” So instead of thinking “I am too sensitive,” you think “I have a trait that is different — not a flaw.” You will hear “reframe” a lot in everyday English, not just in therapy. A manager might say: “Let’s reframe this setback as a learning moment.” A friend might tell you: “Try to reframe the situation — you didn’t fail, you found out what doesn’t work.” It is not slang, and it is not formal. You will hear it in therapy, self-help, workplace talk, and everyday advice — a chat with a friend, a team meeting, a podcast, or a self-help book.
